NEW PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICER
The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Wilma Wooten as the Public Health Officer (PHO) for the County of San Diego.
“The PHO is a critical position for the Health and Human Services Agency, the County, and the region as a whole. Dr. Wooten brings tremendous leadership skills, knowledge and experience to the position. Her leadership on emergency preparedness has been stellar. Dr. Wooten is a tremendous asset to our community, ” said Jean M. Shepard, Director Health and Human Services Agency. Dr. Wooten has been employed with the County of San Diego since 2001. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. “ I am passionate about public health and serving the community, and look forward to continuing to advance our many public health initiatives,”said Dr. Wooten. Dr. Wooten also serves as adjunct faculty, San Diego State University General Preventive Medicine Department, and is a volunteer Associate Clinical Professor at UCSD. She is an active member of the National Medical Association, is a founding member of the Network of Ethnic Physicians Association, serves on the Advisory Board of the National Dairy Council.
