...Workforce Education and Training

...Component Planning Process

...The goal of the MHSA Workforce Education and Training component is to ensure that counties have enough public mental health service providers (psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, etc.) to meet the mental health needs of its population. Counties are required to do a need assessment to determine the number and type of employees currently providing mental health services.

State and national reports will give us an estimate of the number of children, young adults, adults and older adults who will need mental health services. This information will help determine the number of employees and type of jobs that are required to meet the community' s needs.

...You are invited to participate!

.. Individuals who have experience, interest, or expertise in this subject are invited and encouraged to participate in the Planning Process.

Beginning in November 2007 and continuing into January 2008, over 20 groups of approximately 20 people each will meet to discuss the mental health workforce.

Family members and consumers; county and community based service providers, managers and administrators; educational institutions (high schools, community colleges, colleges and universities, and training providers); physical and mental health professionals; and representatives from underserved and special needs populations are invited and encouraged to participate in these groups.

Using the information from the needs assessment, reports and small group meetings, a plan will be developed to ensure that San Diego County has knowledgeable people providing public mental health services that represent the diverse cultures, ethnicities and languages of San Diego residents.

If you have questions about the process, or want to be involved, please email a wnabeheard@projects.sdsu.edu.
