.....Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who created the Cool Zone program after an extremely hot summer and a sharp hike in energy rates, will be kicking off the 2012 Cool Zone season from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Salvation Army Nutrition Center, 1011 E. Main, El Cajon.
Cool Zones offer a place for people to escape mid-day summer heat and reduce their own air conditioning use. AIS coordinates the Cool Zone program and designates the sites, located in libraries, senior centers and public buildings. SDG&E provides funding set by the PUC.
A limited number of portable fans are available free to older customers who are unable to attend a Cool Zone site. Qualification is necessary. Once the Cool Zone program begins, you can call (800) 510-2020 and press “6” to talk with a Cool Zones representative about qualifying for a fan.
To find a Cool Zone site, visit www.CoolZones.org on June 22 or later
